2. Discussion, brief.
3. My Justification as a model of your HW-
For my first argumentative essay, I'm choosing to focus on Vietnam Veterans and the lack of services offered to these Americans. This essay matters to me because my father is dead due, possibly, to a lack of support services for returning veterans. When he died at the age of 44 from drug and alcohol abuse, I felt lost and confused, so maybe helping others or finding ways for others to get help, will prevent another from feeling how I felt. This matters to others because most of us know someone who has returned or will return from war. In fact, as we go through life, we'll meet more and more people affected by their service, and as these people become our friends and family members, we'll want them to have the services my father didn't. What's more, as a society, we owe those who were willing to enlist the proper services upon their return so that they can integrate themselves back into our world and become a part of what we love in America. This is interesting because PTSD is something that has recently become part of our national conversation, and some of the soldiers who, unfortunately, experience PTSD commit crimes or other atrocities. I believe services will help our veterans, and I think we should start by helping those who may not have access to services in the past. It's never too late to start.
4. So, HOMEWORK- Write your justification (directions below), and don't forget to bring that and your final draft to class next time.
Write a paragraph justifying your choice of topic. Your paragraph should explain why you care, why we should care, and why it is interesting.
5. Groups and questions....
Please write down the following questions on a sheet of paper for the other members of your group. While reading their essays, please circle any mistakes or typos. After you've read their essays, please answer the questions on the sheet you created and give them the sheet with their edited essay.
1. Does their introduction describe the commercial and provide us with a primer for understanding their commercial or print ad?
2. Do they have three paragraphs explaining the P, L, and E in their ad?
3. Each paragraph should identify the print ad and then explain why they say P, L, and E, exists in the ad. Did they do that? Do you understand their points?
4. Is this an A essay?
